These two faculty will work in the Center teaching, leading faculty development, and working to support online learning at the only public university in the south Chicago suburbs. Governors State is only 20 minutes south of Chicago’s Loop on over 100 acres of park-like campus in University Park, Illinois. The Center for Online Teaching and Learning (COTL) is a component of the Digital Learning and Media Design unit and provides support to faculty and staff developing online programs and courses. The University College at GSU is the source of online, non-traditional, and off-campus delivery of educational programs.

The three units of the University College are:

1. School of Extended Learning,
2. School of Interdisciplinary Learning, and
3. the Division of Digital Learning and Media Design (DLMD).

The COTL team works closely with University Library and DLMD teams to provide this support.

Associate Course Management Trainer - Northwestern University

Job Summary:

The Associate Course Management Training Specialist supports NU's faculty teaching initiatives through the technical and pedagogical support of NU's online teaching tools and e-learning systems. These tools and systems include: AT course management systems, class websites, blogs, wikis, e-portfolios, classroom response systems, plagiarism detection tools, on-line annotation tools, group collaboration technologies, etc.

Principle Accountabilities:

Provides customer support to NU faculty, staff and students using NU's e-learning online teaching tools; Troubleshooting technical problems, answering interface questions, addressing functionality issues and responding to software-related requests in a fast-paced work environment; Acting as a liaison with NU faculty and library staff to address Academic Technologies computer lab software and scheduling needs; Assisting with training workshops for faculty and in-person consultations for faculty; Developing and maintaining web and paper-based technical support materials; Performing system administration duties such as assisting with system configuration, account activations, and systems testing; Generating and maintaining metric information on application usage;
Communicating as an end-user technical liaison to vendor support infrastructure and cross-functional NU Information Technology Course Management System implementation team; Assisting with managing the part-time student consultant supporting NU's computer labs, smart classrooms and other Academic Technologies services; Performing other related duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree in computer science, instructional design, learning sciences, educational technologies or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience from which comparable skills can be acquired; 2 years of experience; Customer service experience; Knowledge and experience with Windows PC and MAC computing environments; Proficiency with MS Office, HTML, SQL and UNIX; Basic knowledge of streaming audio and video, compression methods, file types and format; Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated skills providing technical support for e-learning applications; Experience supporting a Course Management System such as Blackboard; Experience in a higher education environment.

Under general supervision, Course Management/Training Specialist supports the University's course management systems. Education Technology Consultant - CCIM Institute

General Description: The Technology Consultant provides technical expertise for the education development team of the CCIM Institute and collaborates with the IT department to plan, facilitate, and implement technology into the curriculum. The technology consultant provides support to users and staff for the Blackboard learning platform and the Questionmark testing system.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Manages the front-end configuration for CCIM's Blackboard installation.
2. Supports the installation, configuration, and integration of a Questionmark assessment system that includes both online and paper-based administration.
3. Coordinates with instructional design staff and CCIM faculty to create digital and online instructional resources.
4. Assists with faculty training workshops and the production and updating of related training materials.
5. Acts as a training and consulting resource on instructional technology for faculty and staff.
6. Explores new technologies (i.e. attend conferences) and performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications (Education, Experience, Skills):

This person should be familiar with user aspects, problems, implementation, set up and maintenance of Blackboard online courses; adept at troubleshooting user problems; and supportive and cooperative with faculty and students.

1. Demonstrated experience with Blackboard system administration and course creation/management. Support of Blackboard in technical back end role is highly desirable.
2. Demonstrated proficiency in MS Excel and relational databases (SQL, Oracle)
3. Advanced software competencies in MS Access and MS Excel.
4. Experience building Crystal Reports preferred.
5. Communicates well with others both verbally and in writing and has a proven ability to interact with a wide variety of people using tact and diplomacy.
6. Has ability to work collaboratively within an "academic-like" community.
7. Can organize and prioritize workload in order to meet necessary deadlines.
8. Experience with any of the following is a plus: Questionmark Perception, Harvest Road, Crystal Reports
9. Excellent project management skills and ability to learn new software systems.
10. Bachelor's Degree and 5+ years experience

Blackboard System Administrator - University of Illinois Chicago

The University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) has an immediate opening for a Blackboard System Administrator at the UIC Academic Computing and Communications Center.

The official title for the position is "Visiting Research Programmer" and it is valid for only one year. Separately, the UIC Academic Computing and Communications Center will open a different permanent Research Programmer position for a Blackboard System Administrator within six (6) months.

This is a full-time position reporting to an Assistant Director for Academic Computing who reports directly to the UIC CIO and Vice Provost for Information Technology. The UIC Academic Computing and Communications Center is a central IT organization, with approximately 100 full-time staff and academic professionals.

The Blackboard System Administrator will join a team of other Blackboard system administrators and programmers responsible for UIC's instructional servers: Blackboard Learning and Content Systems, a high-capacity RealNetworks Streaming Server, a Saba Centra Web Conferencing System, various Cisco H.323 Video Conferencing MCU servers and an upcoming Flash Media Server.

The Blackboard SysAdmins, other SysAdmins and programmers are members of the UIC Instructional Technology Lab which primarily provides campus-wide teaching and learning technology support, faculty development support, course development, multimedia design and development, and mobile learning support for traditional on-campus face-to-face classes, as well as for hybrid/blended and online learning.

The UIC Instructional Technology Lab is one of five groups that form the UIC Academic Computing and Communications Center, which also runs the campus network, the telephone system (inc. VoIP), email, calendaring and Web services, campus portal, database systems, computer and network security, general computer consulting, computer labs, LAN services, computer training workshops and site-license software, among other systems and services.

Position Requirements:

(1) Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent
(2) Three (3) years of minimum experience in Blackboard Learning System System Administration
(3) Working knowledge of Unix (Solaris, Linux), Oracle, Apache, tomcat, Java server pages and perl
